Members from Vandergrift # 1, Oklahoma, Parks Twp, Apollo # 3, and Washington Twp participated in 16 hours of training over the weekend. The "Firefighter Survival" course covered various safety topics as well as practical applications that a firefighter could use if they happened to get into trouble in a fire. Skills learned included: calling a "Mayday" transmission, emergency breathing, ladder bailouts, window egresses and hang drops, and rope bailouts. The course instructors, led by Chief Nick Sohyda of the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, were a wealth of knowledge and experience. The members of George G. McMurtry would like to thank the instructors and outside agencies who participated for this excellent training session.
