Members of VFR spent the night training on the Kiski River with the new boat motor that we received as part of a grant last fall.  The new motor allows for the boat to run in shallow, swift waters.  Crews tested the motor well and were able to push upstream through the 4000 cubic foot per second flow without problems.  Along with breaking in the new motors crews surveyed the river looking for possible problems they may encounter for incidents as well as planned for locations to deploy the boat in the event that it is needed.  While out for the training we were joined at the boat launch in North Vandergrift by Parks Twp VFD and North Apollo VFD who came out to practice deploying rope bags.  The training was completed by 2100 hours.
